Nature Crafts

Creature Racers:
-Walnut shell halves
-Paint and paintbrush
-Glue
-Googly eyes
-Felt scraps
-Markers
-Marbles

Help your child decorate the shell halves to
look like animals or creatures. Paint the shells,
and glue on googly eyes, felt scrap ears, legs,
tails, and so on. Use a marker to draw on facial
features.
Place each creature over a marble and race
them along a flat surface.

Layered Sand Art:
-Sand
-Large shallow containers
-Powdered tempera paint in several colors
-Spoon
-Glass jar or bottle with lid or cap

Pour sand into the containers and add a
different color of paint to each container.
Show your child how to color the sand by
mixing it with the paint.
Choose one color of sand and pour a one inch
layer of it into the jar. Change colors and add
additional layers, varying the thickness of each
layer. When the jar is full, put the lid on tightly
and display your sand art in a prominent place.

Moss Wreath:
-White glue
-Small container
-Water
-Paintbrush
-Styrofoam form (heart-shaped or circular)
-Spanish Moss
-Ribbon (in several colors, if desired)
-Baby.s breath or silk flowers (optional)

Pour the glue into the container and thin it
with a little water. Brush the glue mixture
onto the Styrofoam form, then have your child
press Spanish moss onto the glue. If necessary,
use additional glue and moss to fill in any
empty spaces. When the glue is dry, wind
ribbon around the wreath. Begin and end at
the top of the wreath, typing the ends in a bow.
If you like, use more than one color of ribbon,
and tuck baby's breath or silk flowers into the
moss.
